Walking the National Mall

After the Holocaust Museum we decided to walk The Mall. We walked for a little while, and then we stopped for a bite to eat at a refreshment stand. Dave have a hot dog and I had a turkey sandwich. After that we headed down toward the Capitol building. There is a reflecting pool in front of the Capitol, and this one does have water in it. There's a big white tent up in front of the Capitol, I imagine in preparation for the big 4th of July celebration. (The tent was skillfully cropped out of this picture.)

There is a statue of Ulysses Grant in front of the Capitol as well.

There was a really weird guy with a bunch of posters and bags and stuff, and he had taken over one end of the Grant memorial. He was talking to a police officer when we first walked up to the statue, but then the cop walked away. We decided not to take a picture of the weird guy, or to talk to him or even make eye contact with him.

After spending some time by the Capitol, we walked by the Library of Congress. I was going to go in and check out a book, but I forgot my library card.

Then we walked by the Supreme Court building:

Then we walked back down the other side of the mall and visited. Few of the Smithsonian Buildings. We spent quite a while in the American History Museum. We saw cool stuff like Archie Bunker's chair and the leather jacket that belonged to The Fonz. We also saw a leotard that belonged to a famous Olympian gymnast named Nastia Luikin. She wore it while winning the all-around gold medal. This picture is for Becca:
